This was the big project of my design class. We had to create a low-detail self-portrait made of 1/2" cut up images of things we liked that matched the values in a pixelated photo of ourselves. We were also encouraged to make our squares 1/4" for higher face detail if were crazy, which I was, so this took well over 100 hours of methodical work cutting up my images, sorting them into proper values, and trying to match my reference picture as closely as possible. The images I used are largely from my favorite TV shows, musicals, and video games. The white background and border are made up of chopped up lyrics from Wicked and Frozen.
This piece was juried by a third party and chosen to be displayed in my school's student art show, and won the Special Recognition Award.
